A Career Built in the Trades

Brian Lindsey is a master electrician with more than 36 years of experience in the electrical industry. He began his career as an apprentice and steadily advanced through the ranks, working for some of the larger electrical companies in Illinois and Iowa.

In 2000, Brian decided to build something of his own and founded Blackhawk Electric, a business he continues to operate today. His career reflects the value of the skilled trades as both a profession and a path to independence.

Teaching, Inspecting, and Advocating for Tradespeople

Brian has long been an advocate for the electrical field and for tradespeople as a whole. He has taught apprentice classes and served as an electrical inspector for more than ten years.

His passion is helping others see the skilled trades as a meaningful career option—especially people looking for an alternative path that allows them to serve their communities while earning a good living. He believes practical skills, discipline, and the willingness to learn can open doors to lasting financial and personal independence.

Giving Back to Veterans and First Responders

Brian is deeply committed to giving back to first responders and veterans. He carries immense gratitude for the people who sacrificed so much, making it possible for others to follow their dreams and build successful lives.

As he approaches retirement, Brian wants to devote more of his experience to helping veterans and first responders navigate the challenges of running a business, learning a trade, or finding a fulfilling passion that can create greater financial freedom.

Roots in Illinois and Community Service

Brian was born in 1966 in Moline, Illinois, and grew up surrounded by the agricultural and industrial legacy of companies such as John Deere, Case, Farmall, and International Harvester. Over the decades, he watched many of those employers shrink or disappear, reinforcing his appreciation for durable skills, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.

His community service has extended beyond the electrical field. Brian also served on the board of Service Plus Credit Union, where he chaired the loan committee and participated as an active board member.

That combination of trade experience, business ownership, teaching, inspection work, and community leadership is the perspective Brian brings to the Artisan Charity Foundation and its mission of helping others build purposeful, sustainable futures.
